Research Interests

Will is an undergraduate summer researcher working with Michael Ruggiero and Tommaso Salzillo at the University of Bologna in 2025. A materials chemist by training, Will researches stimuli-responsive molecular materials at his home institution with Amymarie Bartholomew. In Bologna, he is applying terahertz spectroscopies to study phase transitions and lattice dynamics in novel solid-state systems. This research aims to probe the physical processes underlying terahertz-driven reactivity and polymorphism, contributing to a more predictive understanding of structure-property relationships and improving methodologies for the rational design of functional materials. Will loves to talk about solid-state chemistry, inorganic synthesis, and crystallography, and he intends to pursue a PhD after his bachelor’s degree.

Outside of lab, Will enjoys writing and hiking. You can expect to find him in the Alps and the Apennines during his weekends off.
