Research Interests
Anna is an undergraduate researcher from Carlow University working under the direction of Michael Ruggiero and Tommaso Salzillo at the University of Bologna during the 2026 IRES CRYSTAL Dynamics Program. She is interested in the intersection of chemistry and materials science, an interest that grew through her summer 2025 research experience in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. There, she worked in Dr. Jian-Gang “Jimmy” Zhu’s laboratory on hBN-facilitated FePt-L10 granular thin films.
Anna plans to pursue a PhD in materials chemistry after completing her undergraduate degree. She is originally from Clarion, Pennsylvania, and now attends Carlow University in Pittsburgh. Outside of research, Anna is a member of the Carlow women’s soccer team and serves as a campus tour guide. She is also the school mascot, Shammy, a very large shamrock.
